Why Are You Always So
Sad?!
-Louis Hart
It may be
hard for some of you to believe but even with the sun and the sand and pretty
girls in bikinis lined up as far as the eye can see, even us South Floridians
get a little down in the dumps from time to time.
By no means
are we immune – and there’s nothing wrong with that. Living in the real world
facing real life problems everyone falls into a rut from time to time.
Life is
filled with stress, anxiety, deadlines and responsibilities – and every now and
then they can all fall right in your lap all at once leaving you feeling a bit
defeated.
Surprisingly
enough our bodies never really learn to adjust either – actually as we age our
bodies become even more vulnerable to the emotional and physical effects of
stress.
We can and do
learn to cope however – knowing full well that we’ll wake up tomorrow and it’ll
be a brand new day.
For most that
is, but for an unfortunate few out there happiness is something that constantly
escapes them – for them the suffering is a regular part of day to day life and
the consequences can be quite severe.
Excessive
stress can lead to chemical imbalances in the brain; you may notice changes in
your physical health such as headaches, muscle tension, difficulty sleeping,
fatigue, indigestion even excessive sweating.
And it can have
a direct affect on nearly every aspect of your daily life. Everything from your
physical and mental health to your ability to perform sexually – even waking up
in the morning to go to work can feel like an insurmountable
task.

Sound
familiar? If so, it could be an early warning sign that your body and mind need
your help to restore their healthy balance.
And today I’d
like to show you a few simple techniques you can incorporate into your daily
life that will help you do just that…
Every Dark Cloud Has a Silver Lining:
1. Sacred Herbs: The use of herbs as a medicinal
treatment for stress and anxiety dates back hundreds of years. Some of the most
highly touted and thoroughly researched are Passion Flower and Brahmi. And both can be found at your local health food
store for a fraction of the cost of prescription medications.
2. Vitamin B: Especially vitamins B6 and B12 have
been shown to help regulate the body’s response to different forms of stress
and help bolster a healthy nervous system.
3. Aroma Therapy: Research has shown us that the
soothing benefits of aromatherapy are the real deal. So next time
you’re out try grabbing a few sweet smelling candles – lavender, cypress,
jasmine, rose and sandalwood are the preferred scents to help relieve stress
and anxiety.
4. Music: Music does a lot more than just keeping
us entertained on the ride to work in the morning. Studies have shown that
music stimulates the part of the brain that makes us happy. So the next time
you’re fed up and you think you’re going to blow just turn on a little music –
and if there’s no radio around try whistling.
5. Laughter: A good laugh releases pleasure
inducing endorphins and lowers your body’s production of the hormones that
cause you stress. So make it a point to watch funny movies or to read the Sunday
comics – and when something strikes you as funny don’t be afraid to laugh out
loud.
6. Walk the Dog: There are numerous studies that point
to the stress relieving benefits of having pets. Couple that with benefits of a
nice brisk walk around the neighborhood and you have a
sure fire recipe for instant stress relief.
7. Tune Out: If you’re anything like my Aunt M.
watching the news or any type of sporting event is enough to make your blood pressure
soar. So if the stress of the world around you is driving you insane try tuning
out for a week or two. Ignore the daily paper and skip the evening news for a
while and use that time to do something that makes you truly happy. Trust me
the world will still be there when you get back.
8. Exercise: Its better for relieving stress than
any drug man has ever invented. When you exercise vigorously your body releases
pleasure inducing endorphins that can have an amazing up-lifting effect on your
mood.
9. S-E-X: Even though its number 9 on my count
down good old sex is first in all of our hearts. There’s nothing like an
energetic round of lovemaking to put a smile on your face and make everything in
the world seem right again.

10. Get Involved: You can volunteer at your local
hospital, church or any local charity. Helping those less fortunate than you
not only feels great – but it’s also a good reminder that sometimes our own
problems aren’t nearly as bad as they might seem at first.
11. Be Thankful: So you’ve tried every trick in the
book and you just can’t seem to get happy no matter how hard you try. We’ve all
had one of those days. But no matter how bad things get, no matter how much
stress they pile on you, you have a lot to be thankful for.
So if even if
you’re having the worst day ever – take time everyday to remind yourself of all
the things you have to be thankful for. I know it sounds like something your
Mom might say – but its sound advice
If you
actually sat down and put pen to paper you’d probably realize you actually have
quite a bit to be grateful for – friends, family, your health and you’ve always
got me in your corner.
Sometimes all
it takes is one little thing to be able to hang your hat on and everything else
just falls right into place.
Stay Healthy!
